Death Valley National Park

ビジターセンターにこういう展示があります。
昔インディアンに別の名前で呼ばれていた谷があった。
ゴールドラッシュの報を受けてあるグループがカリフォルニアに向かった。彼らのうちの一部は誤報に惑わされ、たかがもう一つの砂漠越え、と考えその谷に迷い込んだ。彼らはその後一月近くもそこから出られず、うち一人が死亡した。勇気のある二名が脱出ルートを見つけ残りを助け出した。彼らが谷を見下ろす峠まできたとき、一人がこうつぶやいたという「さよなら、死の谷よ」。
それ以後、この谷はデスバレーと呼ばれるようになった。
Once upon a time, there is a valley called unknown name by native American people.
In the time of the Gold rush, a group was moving to California. They mis lead by the wrong news, strayed into the valley. They thought it might be just another valley crossing. But they could not exit from the valley for a month so one man died. Two courageous member found the exit rout and they succeed an escape.  when they reach a top of a pass, one of them looked back and murmured "Goodbye Death Valley".
After that, the valley is called as the Death Valley.
